Sue, thank you so much for finding a good midi file for Shop Around. It's not quite like the Smokey Robinson version, but it's quite a bit better the lame Captain and Tennille version that was here originally.

Information about the song

(Spoken:)
In the midst of football season, Steve Phillips called the press
He said, "We got a new pitcher, and next year we’ll be the best"
And so I said:

(Sung:)
Just because he can pitch in Japan, now
Doesn’t mean that he is the man, now
Before you start to strike up the band, now
Make some better deals when you can, now

Komiyama tells me you need to shop around
Oh yeah, you need to shop around

As they say in the broadcast booth, now
There’s some facts that are sure the truth, now
We need a guy who can hit like Ruth, now
And Komiyama’s somewhat long in the tooth, now

Komiyama tells me you need to shop around
Oh yeah, you need to shop around

You think you got yourself a bargain, Steve
You should have more tricks up your sleeve
Komiyama is just commonplace
Try to find a hitter who will keep us in the race

Before you head into two thousand two, now
Do everything that you can do, now
Komiyama tells me you need to shop around
Oh yeah, you need to shop around

You think you got yourself a bargain, Steve
You should have more tricks up your sleeve
Komiyama is just commonplace
Try to find a hitter who will keep us in the race

Before you head into two thousand two, now
Do everything that you can do, now
Try to get yourself a Killebrew, now
Don’t leave the Mets fans sad and blue, now

Komiyama tells me you need to shop around

Oh yeah, don't get up from the table
Cos I don't want to see the team unable
Before you go and say goodnight
Make sure the team’s alright

Before you let ‘em take the field, my friend
Never yield, my friend
Spin the wheel, my friend
Make some deals, my friend...

December 2, 2001: After a month of inactivity, the Mets made a move on December 1. They signed a 36-year-old pitcher from Japan with a losing record named Saturo Komiyama. This, despite the fact that the Mets were one of the worst hitting teams in the game.
