Information about the song

I look at the Mets and they look like they're sleeping,
While all the fans gently weep.
They fall to the floor, while the Padres are sweeping,
Still all the fans gently weep.

I don't know why they have been losing, not what we choose to see.
I don't know how, maybe they're boozing, they are not cruising.

I look at the plate, and the batter is Burnitz,
While all the fans gently weep.
Mistakes in the field, and they don't seem to learn it,
Still all the fans gently weep.

(guitar interlude)
I don't know how, they were infected, they were neglected, too.
Seems every guy Phillips selected, did less than expected to.

I look at the Mets and they look like sleeping,
While all the fans gently weep.
Look at the Mets...
Still all the fans gently weep.
(killer guitar finish)

August 18, 2002: At the end of July, the Mets were poised to make a run at the National League Wild Card. Through August 17, the team was 3-13 in August and the season was, for Mets fans, over. George Harrison's classic song from the Beatles' White Album sums up the feelings of most Mets fans.
