You broke the record, that's OK
Then you got thrown out stealing a base
You always were just for yourself, you're a disgrace
But if you have a change of heart
Rickey don't play for numbers
While your team is in the depths
Seems that you're in it only for yourself
Rickey don't play for numbers
And the records that you own
You might hustle and you'll play better
Or you'll be gone
I heard you like the sound of your own name
You can keep on feeding your big ego
Or you can try to win the games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart
Rickey don't play for numbers
While your team is in the depths
Seems that you're in it only for yourself
Rickey don't play for numbers
And the records that you own
You might hustle and you'll play better
Or you'll be gone
You say you want to win the games
But you don't know your teammates' names
And you could have a change of heart
Rickey don't play for numbers
While your team is in the depths
Seems that you're in it only for yourself
Rickey don't play for numbers
And the records that you own
You might hustle and you'll play better
Or you'll be gone
May 4, 2001: Rickey Henderson broke the all-time record for bases on balls, by walking in the 9th inning. With his team two runs down, he then attempted to steal second base and was thrown out. Another stupid move by a guy with great talent but little regard for team accomplishments.
