Information about the song

Is this the real game?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught on a downslide,
No escape from reality.
Open my eyes, Look up to the skies and see,
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I always want full control, Not much high, too much low,
Every time the wind blows always seems to matter to me, to me.

Mets fans, I just fired a man,
When I told him to come by, then I went and said goodbye.
Mets fans, once the team was young,
But now I've gone and sold them all away.
Mets fans, ooh-ooh-ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry,
I'll try and hire a new guy come tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters.

(Piano interlude)

Too late, no hits had come,
The players weren't tryin', making errors all the time.
Goodbye, Mr. Bobby, you've got to go,
Gotta kick your bad behind and face the truth.
Mets fans, ooh-ooh-ooh, I don't want to lose,
I sometimes wish I'd never made those deals.

(Instrumental interlude featuring guitar)

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Mr. Lou, Mr. Lou, will you sit in my dugout.
Throw the base like lightning, very, very fright'ning yes.
(Lou Piniella.) Lou Piniella. (Lou Piniella.) Lou Piniella, Lou Piniella Go Go Go
Magnifico. Oh-oh-oh-oh

I'm just a poor GM, nobody loves me.
He's just a poor man, with a poor history,
Born from his days in the Gotham City.
Seattle Mariners, will you let him go.
Pat Gillick! No, we will not let him go.
(Let him go!) Pat Gillick! We will not let him go.
(Let him go!) Pat Gillick! We will not let him go.
(Let him go.) Will not let him go.
(Let him go.) Will not let him go. (Let him go.) Ah.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
(Oh mama mia, mama mia.) Mama mia, let him go.
The Oakland A's have a field boss put aside for me, for me, for me.

(Short instrumental interlude featuring guitar)

So you think you can ask me to give my best guys.
So you think you can tell me to take it or die.
Oh, Gillick, can't do this to me, Gillick,
Just gotta get Howe, just gotta Howe to come here.

(Instrumental interlude featuring guitar, piano and more guitar)

Always sees to matter, Anyone can see,
Anything that happens,
Always seems to matter to me.

(Piano interlude with guitar)

(Sung softly:)
Every time the wind blows.

October 30, 2002: After firing Bobby Valentine as manager on October 1, the Mets interviewed several candidates. They were unable to work a deal with Seattle GM Pat Gillick to allow them to consider Lou Piniella. After this failed, the Mets finally hired Art Howe with the permission and blessing of the Oakland Athletics. This song casts Mets GM Steve Phillips as Freddie Mercury.
