Information about the song

He's a loser,
He's LaRussa,
And his team is going home today.

Of all the games he has won and has lost
These last two games are the manager's cost.
The sacks were empty, he won't pitch to Bonds
Then Santiago, he hits the home run.

He's a loser,
And he's not as smart as people say.
He's LaRussa,
And his team is going home today.

Although Matt Morris had pitched a great game,
Bring in a hitter in the final frame.
Eleven pitchers were still in the pen,
Now they can rest for the winter, my friend.

He's a loser,
And he's not as smart as people say.
He's LaRussa,
And his team is going home today.

(Instrumental interlude)

What has he done to deserve being great?
Lost to the Dodgers back in eighty-eight.
And now his record in NLCS,
Lost to the Giants, the Braves and the Mets.

He's a loser,
And he's not as smart as people say.
He's LaRussa,
And his team is going home today.

(Instrumental interlude and fade out)

October 19, 2002: The Cardinal recently lost the 2002 NLCS to the Giants. In Game 4, Tony LaRussa decided to walk Barry Bonds intentionally in the 8th inning of a tie game with 2 out and the bases empty. Then Benito Santiago hit a 2-run homer. The next night, he let career .161 batter Matt Morris hit in the 9th inning of a tie game even though he had 11 more pitchers in the bullpen. He must have been resting them for April 2003.
