Information about the song

Mock (yeah) er (yeah) y (yeah)
Yeah (yeah)
Mock-er-y

Now everybody did you see
Steinbrenner make a mockery
And when he starts to scream and yell
Cashman signs old Toothless Wells
And then if Boomer Wells can't play
He steals Jeff Weaver the very next day
That's why (yes indeed) he's gonna ruin the pastime
Say yeah, yeah whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, oh

Hear me now and understand
He’s gonna buy every starter he can find
While NL pitchers learn to bunt
Yankee starters might work twice a month
And if they cannot meet his plan
He’ll buy a guy from Cuba or Japan
And that's why (yes it is) he’s gonna ruin the game of baseball
Say yeah, yeah whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, oh

(Instrumental interlude)

February 2, 2003: As we head into the 2003 season, the Yankees seem to have cornered the market on starting pitchers. They also seem to broker deals to keep the Red Sox from getting anyone useful. The original tune was recorded by Inez and Charlie Foxx, but this rendition is based on the Carly Simon and James Taylor version.
