It's The Same Old Song
(To the tune of It's The Same Old Song)

Information about the song

Your swing is sweet as honeybees
But like a honeybee stings
You've gone and said a lot of things
All you left is a ratty old glove
For the fans that gave you all their love
You used to bring sweet memories
Of big home runs that used to be

Now it's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
It's the same, same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform

Ah, oh a sentimental fool am I
I'm watching last year's games
And wanna cry
But the memories keeps haunting me
Reminding me how up front you used to be
Keep hearing the cheers ringing in our ears
You said Dodgers forever
You'll be leaving us never

It's the same old song, can't bear to hear it
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
(Oh, it hurts to hear it)
It's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform

Precious memories keep a lingering on
Every time I think of that cheering throng
Now you've gone
Left this emptiness
And now I only think it's money poorly spent
We heard your wife sing the music
Watched you swing to the music

Now, it's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
Now, it's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
I, oh I
Can't bear to hear it
It's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
(Ooo, it breaks me up to hear it)
It's the same old song
But you'll be wearing a different uniform
(Repeat and fade)

February 26, 2001: When Gary Sheffield was with the Padres, the top of the lineup (Fernandez, Gwynn, Sheffield, McGriff) were called the Four Tops. This song imagines one of the three real Dodger fans in Los Angeles reaction to Sheffield's whining about wanting to leave.
