Information about the song

(Instrumental introduction of 4 measures)
Tuesday afternoon,
When I was going to leave, now I have a game
And play nine innings or more, then get on a plane.
Sunday, rain did fall
It cooled our tempers right down, I guess that must be why
And left the outfield so wet, that it could not get dry
Ah Ah-ah ah ah

(Instrumental interlude of 8 measures)
The rain has caused the Sox to change their pitching plans
And skip John Burkett now since he is not the man
So now for Monday's game Tim Wakefield's gonna throw
And then the Yankees will be faced by Derek Lowe
Tuesday afterno-oo-oon, Tuesday afternoon.

(Instrumental interlude of 4 measures)
Tuesday, afternoon,
When I was going to leave, now I have a game
And play nine innings or more, then get on a plane.
Sunday, rain did fall
It cooled our tempers right down, I guess that must be why
And left the outfield so wet, that it could not get dry
Ah Ah-ah ah ah
(Instrumental interlude with voices singing doo-doo-doo)
(Instrumetal interlude with no voices leading to fade out)

October 12, 2003: On October 11, a Saturday, the Red Sox and Yankees played Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. It was a pretty disgisting display of a lack of sportsmanship that included a couiple of bench clearing brawls, a 72-year-old coach taking a swing at a 32-year-old pitcher, and an altercation in the Yankees bullpen with a member of Boston's grounds crew. Sunday's game was rained out, forcing Game 5 to be moved to Tuesday afternoon and giving me an excuse to ruin a marvelous song by the Moody Blues.
